The Milk Carton Kids - *SEATED SHOW* Biography
The harmonies and minimalist instrumentation of the Milk Carton Kids embody clear references to music of the past and simultaneously hint of expansive musical possibilities for the future. Emulating both a sound and a public image that disguise the youth of the band members (and of the band itself - the Milk Carton Kids released their first album Retrospect in early 2011), this group presents a bold perspective on the desire for simplicity in music. Making use of two guitars and two lead vocals, the Milk Carton Kids have garnered a reputation for laboring over every arrangement, recording themselves live, and making a name for themselves on their own independent label. Following Retrospect and their second 2011 album Prologue, the Milk Carton Kids are now preparing for the release of their first major label album The Ash & Clay, expected out March 26, 2013 on ANTI-.
A performance by The Milk Carton Kids is a quiet and intricate affair. The two musicians behind the group are Kenneth Pattengale & Joey Ryan, and it is due to their musical chemistry that the duo's songwriting process comes together so seamlessly. Before forming the Milk Carton Kids, Pattengale and Ryan released music as solo artists; since 2011, they have played festivals like SXSW, opened for many critically-acclaimed artists including Grammy-nominated Sara Bareilles, and have gained respect throughout the music community by staying true to their style and creating art for art's sake.
