Alt-rockers Minus the Bear have intrigued fans far and wide with their innovative compositions and gutsy song titles for over 10 years.
Minus the Bear Biography
With intriguing song titles like "Hey, Wanna Throw Up? Get Me Naked," "Monkey!!! Knife!!! Fight!!!" and "Lemurs, Man, Lemurs," it's hard to resist giving in to the nagging curiosity about this Seattle-based quintet. Featuring members of Botch, Kill Sadie, and Sharks Keep Moving, Minus the Bear emerged on Seattle's music scene in 2001 with the release of their six-song EP This Is What I Know About Being Gigantic. Though Minus the Bear entered the studio before playing a single show together, they toured aggressively in support of their debut EP and returned to the studio in 2002 to record their first full-length album Highly Refined Pirates.
Though their song titles may lead one to believe Minus the Bear is a novelty act, the group delivers tracks that are both carefully polished and shrewdly arranged. Finger-tapped guitar riffs mix with catchy melodies and unexpected time changes to keep listeners interested and entertained. As they demonstrated on their latest record Infinity Overhead (2012), Minus the Bear are constantly on the lookout for innovative material they can bring to their work both in the studio and on the stage.
