Katchafire - Friday Show - SOLD OUT!! Biography

From their humble roots-reggae beginnings in 1997 as a cover band to their current status as troubadours of the Pacific spirit, New Zealand's Katchafire continue to hone their craft as a testament to organic Aotearoa reggae and a tribute to Bob Marley, who inspired both their name and their foundational years. Katchafire is well-acquainted with success - their 2003 debut album Revival went double platinum in New Zealand and was followed with 2005's Slow Burning, an album that quickly earned platinum status. Revered throughout the Pacific for their grounded reggae appeal, Katchafire presents a united spiritual connection between its seven members and the land they come from.

Maoli Biography

The early years of Maoli started in Maui with Glenn Awong, a young student with a passion for music. In his sophomore year, the aspiring vocalist/guitarist began writing original music at the encouragement of his high school teacher; soon after, Awong began recording demos. By the time he reached his senior year, Awong was ready to share his music with a wider audience.

A few years after it all began, Awong and the band he formed under the name Maoli (Hawaiian for "native") won a 2005 Battle Of The Bands competition in Maui. Three years later, Maoli's lineup shifted again. Currently, the band features lead vocalist Awong, guitarist/vocalist Nuu Kahalehau and bassist Kakana Akiu-Corpuz.
