After spending over a decade recording and performing together, the genre-dodging six-piece Australian band The Cat Empire returns to the stage in support of their latest record, 2013's Steal the Light.
Cat Empire Biography
The renowned Australian band The Cat Empire returned earlier this spring with their latest release Steal the Light. Following five previous full-length records and the ten years the band has thus far logged together, this six-piece has traversed the musical landscape to forge a signature sound, dutifully crafting music to transcend genre boundaries through their shared improvised energy. After years of watching descriptions of their unique sound expand - jazz/reggae/funk/latin/gypsy/hip-hop and so on - The Cat Empire continues to jump from genre to genre, foregoing the restrictions of labels in lieu of making music that inspires audiences to get up and dance.
Since their debut self-titled album premiered in 2003, The Cat Empire have released five additional records, including their latest 2013 project. Dropped independently on May 17, Steal the Light is proof that The Cat Empire are as musically charged and genre resistant as ever.
