Calexico Biography

Formed in Tucson, AZ in the mid-1990s by founding members Joey Burns and John Convertino, Calexico has released seven full-length albums to date, the latest of which (2012's Algiers) brought the band to New Orleans to delve into combinations of genres and sounds that they had previously only touched upon. Still, Calexico has always been a band interested in experimentation: on their second studio album The Black Light (1998), Burns and Convertino pushed the group to explore the possibility of recreating the experience of the desert through music, a project that was met with enthusiastic reviews and even received recognition from the Wall Street Journal as one of that year's top albums.

In the years since that first set of rave reviews, Calexico has collaborated with numerous notable musicians, including Willie Nelson, Iron Wine and Nancy Sinatra, among others. The group has also released a series of tour CDs and DVDs since the late 1990s and was even contracted to record soundtracks for two films in 2010 and 2011.

Sallie Ford and the Sound Outside Biography

Portland's 1950s-styled rockabilly artists Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside came together in 2007 and signed their first record deal with Partisan Records in 2011. That same year, the quartet (comprised of Sallie Ford on vocals/guitar, Ford Tennis on drums, Jeffrey Munger on guitar and Tyler Tornfelt on upright bass) released their full-length debut Dirty Radio and soon began touring the U.S. in support of their music. In February 2013, the group released their follow-up record Untamed Beast, a visceral rock and roll romp that Mashable.com described as a “cross between Ella Fitzgerald and Tom Waits.”
