Willie Mack is a real-life, countrified Texan. He grew up on a ranch building fences and branding cattle in Chico, Texas, which is a little town of 850 people. On life in Chico, Willie says, It was an amazing place to grow up! Life is slow and true, and you learn all of the down-to-earth things growing up in the country that you just dont get the opportunity to experience in the city. After high school, Willie moved to Nashville to attend Belmont University. There he went to class by day and honed his songwriting craft and singing by night. I was making terrible grades in school, but I was starting to write some really good songs! I flew through school in three and a half years, because I wanted get out and jump into music, says Willie. A few years after Belmont, Willie signed with Famous Music where he had cuts by artists such as, Colin Raye and Sons of the Desert. He has since scored the title cut of the new Sara Evans album, Restless. Willie also has songs on the upcoming albums by George Canyon (Nashville Star runner-up) on Universal South and Lila McCann. Willie has a new album called Average Guy, which was recorded by Nashville producer Keith Brown and former 6 Wire member, Steve Mandile. All of the songs on the album are written or co-written by Willie. Willie says, Most of the artists Ive loved or looked up to are the ones who wrote their own songs. It just opens an artist up more to the listener when they are sharing true stories from their lives about joy and pain. I can identify with that! Average Guy, which was released in August, is a blend of influences such as, Steve Earle, Dwight Yoakam, Merle Haggard, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Presley, and the Beatles. The songs portray the real life of a real man facing the struggles of dreams, family and reality.
