She’s been likened to June Carter, Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton, but a closer comparison is probably Iris Dement. In reality, though, Sara Petite is very much her own person; a singer-songwriter with rare vision. Musical arrangements are mainly acousxtic, with fiddle, pedalsteel, banjo, mandolin, and accordion judiciously used in amongst guitars, bass and light percussion. Her voice is simple and unassuming – quite twangy, but perfect for these rural stories, mainly from her own life experiences. I particularly enjoyed the delicate Gypsy Friend and the slightly upbeat old-timey Standing on the Corner. Highly recommended to bluegrass, Americana and traditional country fans alike.
