PRINCE ZOHAR AT THE CONTROLS
Prince Zohar is a San Diego-based musician and producer who has turned heads and blown speakers with Habitat Sound System, his heavy analog dub project. HSS’s debut full-length, ‘Meets Prince Zohar and The Mystics’, was mixed by Zohar and the UK’s Mad Professor, who also mastered the album. The record received accolades from dub legends like Dennis Bovell and Scientist, and rave reviews from all corners of the globe for its deep, soulful, rhythmic sound. The music has been compared with that of Black Ark Lee Perry, Keith Hudson’s dark soul, and the echoes of Augustus Pablo and Ranking Dread. This summer’s new 7” single, ‘Zebras in the Dancehall’, infuses a classic reggae rhythm with afro-brazilian percussion and blown out vocals for an ecstatic experience.
This year has seen Prince Zohar travel to Brazil, the UK, and all over the States playing his unique brand of dub and dancehall for enthusiastic audiences. Zohar is also at the controls and rocks the mic for Dub Traffik Control, a dancehall destruction unit that tours worldwide and hosts Rub-a-Dub Fridays this summer at the Belly Up. Zohar’s dj sets quake and bubble with his own original dubplates and many of his favorites from years past- music to rock the dancehall and move the soul.
