Natalie “The Floacist” Stewart, The Soul of Floetry
As a slam champion poet and trained actress, the creation of Floetry and it’s spectacular stage show, both came as first nature. A born performer and communicator, Natalie first took to the stage at the tender age of three. After graduating from Richard Branson’s BRIT Performing Arts and Technology College as ‘Student of The Year’, she later went on to invite her long time friend Marsha Ambrosius to perform at a poetry event that Natalie was headlining along side her renowned performance poetry group ‘3 Plus 1’. That night, Floetry was born. Natalie named herself, The Floacist, named Marsha The Songstress, and termed their genre as “poetic delivery with musical intent”. Initially operating as Floetry’s manager and PR, Natalie took the blossoming artistic venture from South London, UK to Philadelphia, USA.
Now, after five years of non-stop, sold out, touring and selling well over 1 million copies of three released albums, including a live album DVD, Floetry has moved on to solo ventures.
Always the performing artist, Natalie has her fingers in many creative pies! She is in the final stages of publishing a children’s book series, with the prospect of becoming a children’s animated program, she is setting up a non-profit scholarship fund to aid young girls raised in foster care to go on to further education and further achievements, she is on her final draft of a screenplay which she is writing with Angelina Jolie in mind for the lead role, there’s a clothing line, an accessories line and if you really want to see her eyes light up, just ask her about the creative and spiritual process of her solo album, due for release in late summer/fall 2008.
“I realized during the final stages of Floetry, that I hadn’t developed a voice to air my own fears…simply because I have never believed in fear articulation, as I am not afraid! So I had to find a new language, to be able to articulate the experiences that I was having. A language that recognizes the reality of change without seeking an avenue of victimization…and I used that new language to create this album!”
