Megan Combs

Megan Combs has had a guitar in her hands from the age of six. Shortly after, writing her first songs, singing, and performing in bars and festivals from the age of 14. two of the more notable ones in her early days included the Only in Oakland festival in Pittsburgh, and the Pennsylvania Festival for the Arts. Her first Debut EP West With You, was released in 2004, and was critically acclaimed the North East, receiving radio play and attention from legendary Grammy award winning guitarist Mark Roth, who took her under his wing and began to help her hone her skills. From there Megan took her music on the road eventually living in Virginia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and landing in the Southern California music scene in June of 2008. “I’ve been fortunate enough to meet and network with amazing musicians who keep me on my toes as well as open doors for me” Says Megan, who has played an average of two shows per week since she arrived in San Diego and has been in print in the San Diego READER more than a couple times. She is a spunky 25 year old who will say she’s already lived ten lives within this one. “I won’t run out of things to write about that’s for sure”. I’ve been through a marriage, and a divorce, financial turmoil, physical ailment, and let me tell you….when it rains, it definitely pours". Megan keeps a positive upbeat attitude though, and it’s showing in her new material. She is in the middle of recording her new EP which will be released in June. Among the songs you’ll hear is one called “Come Inside” which tells a tale of living inside the light even when there seems to be the darkness of bad luck, circumstance, and other peoples’ negativity surrounding you, and seeing the positive side of the bad experience and being thankful for it because of the contrast, and because it allows you to take nothing for granted. This is definitely one of the main themes of the new album. It is also shaping up to have more of a surf theme with a song called party wave, and other songs drawing inspiration from the California coast, and surfing. Megan is “stoked” for 2010 and all that it will bring. With a line up of great shows, a late summer coastal tour in the works, a new music video for her “Song for a Spider”, and the Release of her EP in June, I’d say we’ll all be rocking out to her breezy, beachy melodies, and delving into her heartfelt and to the point lyrics in our cars within.
