GuavaBelly exploded onto the San Diego music scene in 2008 as a curious and multifaceted musical creature, it’s meteoric rise facilitated by the extensive experience and diversity of it’s members. A drummer from New York who spent years playing jam-band circuits with a brief stint in a reggae band. Two lab-coat wearing PhD students on bass and keys, having left behind a London punk-band and a Toronto funk-band respectively to do oceanographic research in San Diego. A lead guitarist from the woods of Vermont with a penchant for metal and a vocalist and guitarist straight from the Seattle rock scene.

As each member of the band pulls the music in different directions a genre-defying sound is created that flows seamlessly from bouncy dub beats, to raw driving rock, to extended stoner-rock jams, to all acoustic Americana punctuated with samples of the voice of the great physicist Richard Feynman. Greater than the sum of it’s parts, GuavaBelly is the musical equivalent of the robot cats from Voltron joining together to become a giant invincible mechanoid.

The members of GuavaBelly met each other in a grimy corner of Ocean Beach in late 2007 and started writing songs. Within six months they were in the recording studio of local San Diego producer Jeff Berkley, of Berkley Hart. They launched their debut album “It’s GuavaBelly” in February 2009.
