DJ James Barak

Dj James Barak, the name is simple being my first and middle names. Being a dj for the past 15 years has taken me through virtually every genre of djing and I can only look back and laugh at how much fun it has been and how many ridiculous moments I have seen. Starting out in the rave scene of the mid 90’s I was engulfed in playing deep drum n bass and mixing in reggae before the ragga scene actually hit. The snaps and complexions of the drums drove me and I would perform at large outdoor parties around California or festivals related to the music. Living in Santa Barbara I moved from one sound to all, not prejudicing any type and instead blending them all instead of getting bored of one type after a few mixes, from electro to down tempo to 80s to old school hip hop and every other type of vinyl I could get my hands on. I began expanding musical horizons by being part of a six piece jazz band that frequented the santa Barbara night life. Along with that I was the headliner for a freestyle session every Tuesday that brought in immense talent from all over southern California. Moving to San Diego was the next adventure and I continued to Dj all types of spots down town and in north county holding down weekly residences. Always a fan of drums and being part of live music bands in the past I began to play percussions and started focusing on live music over the last few years with my band but I pull out the classics of vinyl at least once a month somewhere in california to make sure the party is still rolling on. Belly up get ready!
