Cava

Cava is a combination of sounds unique to a Mexican-American upbringing. The original compositions speak of the struggles of human emotions, experiences, desires, and the frustrations of life. She’s featured on Cajón; a Peruvian percussion Box mainly played by men, Jarana; a small rhythm guitar from Veracruz, and Taiko; Japanese for “Big Drum”. She has independently released her new album titled “CAVA” introducing the new configuration of Latin powered Jazz with a tinge of Peruvian soul, weaving in and out of Cumbia, Salsa, Afro-Cuban Son and Ska beats. She appeared in the Universal Pictures film Along Came Polly, starring Ben Stiller & Jennifer Aniston in the infamous Salsa scene as the band Singer. She’s recorded with Beastie Boy Keyboardist/Songwriter Money Mark on his recent album, Brand New by Tomorrow, and has toured the globe with him and various artists that range from Academy Award nominated Lila Downs to Mexico’s Jose Manuel Figueroa. The ensemble features: Walter Miranda (Keys/Bass) who has recorded and shared the stage with Grammy Award Winning Ozomatli, Los Lobos, Beastie Boys, Plastilina Mosh, Sublime, Santana and Sean Lennon. Alfredo Ortiz (Drums/Percussion) has worked and toured with artists such as Tenatious D, Beastie Boys, Los Lobos, Blackalicious, Chromeo and Morningwood. The young musicians together create a jazzy blend of traditional Son/Cuban-Dub. Despite the variety of sounds, her roots lie in Mexico’s traditions. Born and raised in Los Angeles to immigrant parents, Claudia Gonzalez-Tenorio (a.k.a Cava) began her career at the age of 6, headlining with Mexico’s top legendary artists. A traditional home, embedded Afro-Cuban rhythms in her while the L.A melting pot metamorphosed any future thoughts of creativity into what the ensemble now calls Skafrocuban Dub. This is a new beginning for the singer/songwriter exploring all sides of music and possibly giving a new female perspective.
