BLUSD International Blues Challenge

. Last year, Nathan James and Ben Hernandez were sent to Memphis to represent San Diego and grabbed the first place prize in the solo/duo competition. The year before, Aunt Kizzy’z Boyz placed second in the band competition. With the help of these two groups and many more, San Diego has proven that it has a blues scene to be reckoned with. We hope to send another outstanding entry from our local pool of talent to represent BLUSD at the 24th annual competition.
The 23rd IBC, held in February 2007, included more than 150 competing bands. The list of blues artists whose careers were launched at the IBC over the years includes, but is not limited to, Michael Burks, Tommy Castro, Susan Tedeschi, Watermelon Slim, and Zac Harmon.
There’s still time to enter for your chance to participate in this prestigious event. The semi-finals will be held in August and the final competition in September. For more information on rules and entry requirements, contact ibc@blusd.org or visit http://blusd.org/IBC.aspx.
